La caja

Muy pronto vamos a presentar nuestro proyecto de "La Caja" . Hemos estado trabajando en ellas desde que llegaron nuestras truchas arco iris. La caja es el producto final del "inquiry" que los chicos han hecho sobre este animal y el ecosistema acuático de Alberta. Dentro hay varios mini-libros: un " Diary of a rainbow trout", un libro-acordeon : " What would happen if there were no more rainbow trout?" y un librito en Español " Los animalitos del bosque de Alberta". Finalmente, los alumnos han hecho también un ebook usando la aplicación CBB ( Creative book builder) . Os dejamos un avance de lo que va a ser la presentación durante los días 21 y 22 de Marzo en las conferencias de los alumnos.

During the next Student-led conferences , we are going to present our "Box" project. Students have been researching and working on our inquiry project during the last few weeks, and the result has been compiled in the box. Inside the box , the students keep different little booklets that reflects their understanding of Alberta aquatic ecosystems : "What would happen if there were no more rainbow trout?" and also their creative writing skills with " Diary of a Rainbow trout". They also wrote a little booklet in Spanish " Los animalitos del Bosque de Alberta" and finally they created an ebook which is  a reflection in Spanish explaining how they did their inquiry and their box , using CBB (creative book builder) in our iPads . They put a lot of work on this project and we hope to share with you during student led conferences all that they learned through this project. Student led conferences will be on March 21 and 22.

Bishop Pinkham Robotics wins Second Place at FTC Alberta/BC competition in Edmonton

It's been exactly a year since my last post. To say that I have been very busy is an understatement, but I have great news that I need to share with everybody. Our Robotics Team , " Technar " ( team 12055 at FTC Alberta) got the Second Place last weekend in Edmonton in the Alberta-British Columbia competition.  The first place was for a BC team which virtually turns ours as the best team in Alberta. Yay! I couldn't be prouder and happier about this Team that has showed their talent, enthusiasm, commitment and teamwork throughout these months.  We started back in September with a group of 30 grade 8 and 9 students. We have been meeting on a weekly basis ( more than that in the last weeks) guided by Mr Wilson, Engineering and Robotics Teacher from Ernest Manning High School. Augmented reality+Doceri, the teacher by your side

Last week I tried using "Aurasma" in the iPads. Aurasma is an augmented reality app that uses a trigger image to show a 3d object, video or whatever you want to appear. My goal was to make a worksheet alive. As we work in a bilingual setting and we teach math in spanish, explanations are very visual but not all the students pick it up at the beginning. Some of them need further explanation, of course , whether it is their mother language or not. But I was thinking about homework and that moment when you are trying to recall an explanation but you do not remember exactly what the teacher said. And here is when the "virtual teacher" in a form of video appears when you put the iPad over the worksheet.  The application could seem very complicated , but in fact, it was easy to deal with since it guides you al l the time.
