PROYECTO: CRIATURAS DEL AGUA

WATER CREATURES PROJECT

Our big Inquiry Question is : Where does water go/come form? Some of the questions we are wondering and answering are....

  • Explore the secrets of the water : what amazing things have you found in the water? In which different forms can you find water? How does water affect the living things around it?

  • Why is water so important to living things ? And to humans? What would happen if we did not have water?

  • How does water affect the cycle of life of animals and plants?

  • How do humans use water to obtain a place to live, energy, food...?

  • How can we be more "water efficient"?

  • Can we use water as a means of communication? How?

  • Where does water come from?here does it go?

  • Do you think water will never end?

  • Which is the impact of human's polution in water?

This is a project we are doing in both languages: Spanish and English.

Taking the opportunity that the visiting teacher from Spain , Diana Sinisterra which has Degree in Fine Arts, we thought of creating an art project combining science, art and Spanish. We created this power point with the goals for the project.

First, we viewed this inspirational video called "Planet Earth Forever" as a starting point for our project to arouse students' interest in the topic and be aware of the importance of water to our world . We also wanted them to realize the beauty in the nature, which was going to be our staring point in art, observe nature and the beauty in it.

This is the initial chart with the steps of the project

After that , we did a brainstorming where students thought of animals that could live in the water, and students chose their water creature. Then they draw it.
First students design their animal

They then had to describe their creature to the rest of the class. We introduced the vocabulary and created a wikipage where they could see and listen the words with pictures.

This is the vocabulary page I designed for our wiki, using pictures and Audiopal so that they could know how to say it. We never translate!

After vocabulary practice , they then started to write their descriptions.

We also worked on the storytelling of the story "El pez arcoiris"

Finally they did a screencast-o-matic to present their creature.( I will upload some videos shortly)

These are some pictures of the art steps
