The evening of June 23rd in many cities in Europe, and also in Spain, it is celebrated "La noche de San Juan". This tradition is said to be more than 2000 years old. People usually gather around the fire to celebrate the summer solstice. It has also a "magical" meaning . They first made the bonfires to attract the power of the sun and keep the days long( as they started to be shorter from that point) , and the fire and the water are also used as renovating elements. yet, many people gather pieces of wood and stuff they are not using anymore and build a "fogata" during the previous days (even the notebooks...) and that night, they burn it all. People gather around the bonfires to celebrate that the old goes and that a new beginning is there for us.
